I like my little Flip UltraHD Camcorder. I bought it because we never use our bigger and more complex camcorder, plus I wanted one that would enable me to transfer files more easily to my computer. It has been great - we use it a lot more and file transfer is really simple. We toss the thing in our bag whenever we head out the door anyplace potentially video-worthy and with a simple push of a button we are taking video.
Although I like it very much, I have three gripes. First, it is hard to take video up close. I find myself constantly having to back up or hold the camera up and away to capture things. Sometimes the scene you want to capture is close to you, and in those instances, if you are in a small room (or in our case on our boat), then you cannot backup far enough to capture close images. Second, the camera provides no indication of battery life until the battery is nearly dead. Several times I have tried to use the camera only to find out that the battery is low. Shortly thereafter it just shuts off and I am unable to use it. Third, the moviemaking software (which enables you to combine multiple videos into a single "movie") could be a great feature - but it has some serious limitations. It has no progress indicator to let you know how much time is remaining in process of creating your movie. Some of the movies I made took nearly two hours. At first I thought the thing had frozen on me, but when I went to shut it off, I got a message saying that a movie was currently being made. So I just let it sit until at some point a long time later, it was mysteriously done.
This has the potential to be a great product, and I do enjoy my Flip. But it has some rough spots that need serious attention by its developers.Get more detail about Flip UltraHD Camcorder, 120 Minutes (Black).
