It is unfortunate for Flip that there are so many "battery charging problems." I spent hours trying to fix this. Finally, I got one battery to charge with my tower PC. I cound not charge with my laptop and could not charge with the optional adapter. I sent one Flip back because of this problem. I like the concept of a small camcorder, so I keep trying. I will probably keep this one and carry extra batteries with me.
The video is OK considering the size and cost. Having 2x zoom is a problem. No stabilizaton feature is a problem. The video does not record well in low light. The video is great in the outdoors.
The advantage is the size and ease of use and the standard mpeg4 files.
The files can be put into other editing software which is good. Some vendors use propriety HD files.
The sound pick-up is good. This camera is great to catch random videos of children, speeches, tours, or scenic places. The size and easy controls motivates me to keep working on the battery charging problem.
The support from Flip is terrible. You can view questions at their web site, which are simple answers that don't help much. You can send in a request for service and their support staff sends an e-mail back within 24 hours and closes the case. If you want to discuss further, you open a new request. The support staff asked for a lot of information to give me permission to return the unit to Flip. It is much easier to just return the unit to the store.
