Overall, this gadget is very good and serves its purpose. The negative reviews published here in Amazon about this camcorder are mostly true but tolerable IMHO.
I also ordered the charger, the Lowepro case and a mini tripod.
One common complain about the Flip HD is that its rechargeable battery heats up during charging. No argument, it really does. I had battery level of about 1/8 of its capacity. After charging more than half of its capacity using a charger (sold separately), "Battery Overheat" message was displayed. I just unplugged it and let it cool for about 30 minutes or so and start charging again till it reached its 100% level. This works for me, I mean I could tolerate this kind of inconvenience. Side note: I highly recommend using USB extender in connecting the Flip HD to your pc or to a charger (just make sure that the extender is compatible to USB 2.0).
I also noticed that the power button is very sensitive. I am pretty sure that most users of this camcorder had somehow unknowingly pushed the power button and turned on the unit. It had happened to me for a few times. Though it has an auto shut-off feature, it would not automatically turn off if you accidentally pushed the record button as well. What are the chances of unknowingly pushing the power and record buttons consecutively? I don't know but it happened to me once. I always place the camcorder in its case when not in used. This increase the possibility of not noticing that the unit is on. Sometime last week, when I got home, I put my Flip HD on a table and about 30 minutes later, when I picked it up, I felt that it's warm. I took it off from the case and saw that it's in recording mode. Of course nothing was recorded but darkness.
If you could live with its flaws and you NEED a good quality video portable camcorder, then this is for you. If you could not, wait for a few months and most likely they will come up with a better camcorder.Get more detail about Flip UltraHD Camcorder, 120 Minutes (Black).
