We owned the original Flip, and when I merged video from the old Flip with clips from the new HD, the movie really highlighted the amazing difference in quality between generations.
We use the Flip often--for tee-ball games and other kiddo/family experiences. The Flip fits so nicely in my purse that I can forget I have it. Taking video seems simpler and less obtrusive than using a larger hand-held camcorder. The Flip is built for spontaneity. I have made several movies to send to friends and family--Flip-provided software is easy to use.
My complaints include the relatively short range of the zoom; this recorder is better for close-up shots. The battery life is pretty short. I never made it past an hour of taking short shots of a sports game. The software for editing is easy to use but almost too simplistic.
