Why choose Flip UltraHD vs. traditional camcorder vs. digital camera with built-in video? One of the reasons my old Sony Hi-8 Camcorder was sitting in the closet is because there were so many things to think about before shooting a scene; I'd have to check make sure the right tape is inside, etc. Meanwhile my Canon camera has video capabilities, but at 640x480 the resolution doesn't capture much detail. The Flip UltraHD, on the other hand, is super easy to use. I love being able to fill up the whole screen with vivid HD detail. It also has one of those tripod screw mounts at the bottom so you can use a mini tripod; recommended if you want to keep it smooth and steady. There is no image stabilization so it ends up being pretty shaky. Being so simple to operate, even my gadget-fearing parents can take video without having to explain to them the buttons for an hour. The included software has a nonstandard user interface so even though I'm a computer pro, I couldn't quite figure out how to edit videos (without looking at the instructions first).
